Summer Fun!

I hope everyone is enjoying their summer breaks!

Mine has been pretty busy with classes, traveling, and wedding planning! In-between my busy days I have been trying to read and research some books to recommend for my 3rd-going-on-4th-graders. I have found a couple that I want to recommend to you all. If you're struggling to find a good book to read, check out some of the ones below!

Balto of the Blue Dawn: Magic Tree House #54 - by Mary Pope Osborne
The newest book from the Magic Tree House series, just published in January! A back-in-time story from Alaska about dogsled racing and the infamous Balto. Readers from my class might enjoy this if they liked Stone Fox, one of our read aloud books in class this past year! After reading the book you could also watch the movie, Balto (1995).

The BFG - by Roald Dahl
A great book about a Big Friendly Giant and a young orphan girl. Now also a movie! Great pair for some summer entertainment! Remember to read the book FIRST :)

Save Me A Seat - by Sarah Weeks & Gita Varadarajan
A touching emotional story about friendship and working together to overcome bullies and difficulties in school, as well as challenges of being an immigrant in the United States.

Sit, Stay, Love - by J. J. Howard
This is a cute story about a girl overcoming some challenges in life who takes comfort in volunteering at an animal shelter. The story unfolds as she helps give some extra care to a rejected pug at the shelter. Perfect for animal lovers!

Upside-Down Magic (#1) - by Sarah Mlynowski, Lauren Myracle, & Emily Jenkins
A "magical" (ha!) story about Nory, who is not-so-great at her tricks. A cute and fun read about magic and differences, with a good bit of humor! This is book #1 of a series.

Wings of Fire (#1) - by Tui T. Sutherland
Book #1 in "The Dragonet Prophesy". This book is a good fantasy read with lots of descriptive detail. about the dragons and their lives. The five come together to save their land. Perfect for readers who love dragons, magic, or other fantasy books.

I hope everyone is taking some time to enjoy this sunny weather! Don't forget to read and have fun! See you all back at school in about a month. Don't forget to stop by to see your 3rd grade teacher!

Smiles,
Ms. Strong :)
